eLearning for Transition, Progression and Retention

Potential transitional students to Brunel from the WL LLN region were invited to participate in the project’s initial online ‘Getting started with u-Link’ e-Learning programme at Brunel University before the start of the 2008/9 academic year; as were the new intake before the start of the 2009/10 academic year.

The pool of potential “network” learners (that is those with addresses in the general vicinity of West London) was identified from the university’s student applications database (part of SITS) and was 442 in 2008 and 71 in 2009.

The invitation to participate was also sent to mature transitional students and those with non-traditional qualifications (NTQs) from elsewhere in the UK, so that they could also potentially benefit (this total was 868 in 2008 and 436 in 2009).

The invitations were sent by email to those learners who had provided an email address, practicalities of time and resource precluding the use of traditional letters.

Face-to-face presentations were also made at the Hammersmith and Southall sites of Ealing Hammersmith and West London College, and the Willesden campus of the College of North West London.
