Project Evaluation: Careers Information and Advice Days

Careers Information and Advice days

The West London IAG Steering Partnership facilitated by the West London Lifelong Learning Network (WL LLN) is made up of IAG providers from the West London area; this includes FE Colleges, Universities, Adult and Community Learning, Guidance Companies, Connexions and Prospects Ltd (next step).

At the January 2009 meeting there was a discussion on the issues of providing Information and Advice for prospective adult learners.

It was clear that for adult learners with qualifications above level 2 there was no specific agency where they could go for one to one information; this was especially critical where specialist advice is needed for entry to Higher Education.

At the moment next step specialises in IAG for adults with qualifications below level 2 though their offer has now been extended to adults below Level 3 for those coming from Job Centre Plus or are newly redundant.

In addition the National Careers Advice line delivers information on all available courses.

It is hoped that in 2010 the new Adult Advancement and Careers Service will provide IAG for adults with all levels of qualifications though it is still unclear how advice on entry to HE will be delivered.
