This is a ground breaking agreement which ensures EHWLC students with a pass in the Access to Science Access Programme, receive equal consideration for places to progress to one of 9 BSc Science courses offered by RHUL.
Alan Gange, Professor of Microbial Ecology and Admissions Tutor for Biological Sciences, said: “This agreement represents a wonderful opportunity for EHWLC, RHUL and, most of all, the students concerned. Collaboration such as this is the future of entry procedures to Higher Education and we are delighted to be a part of this exciting venture.”
Richard Wilmer, Course Director at EHWLC and Member of the WL LLN STEM Sector Steering Group, said: “I am absolutely delighted that our Access to H.E. Diploma in Science students will have the great opportunity afforded by the Agreement.
“Each year, several of our Access students apply to read Biomedical Sciences at university, and it will be marvellous for them that studying at one of the best universities in the country is a genuine option.
“I am also very pleased that RHUL has given us what amounts to a tremendous ‘vote of confidence’ in our well-established Access provision.”
The WL LLN Progression Agreement will provide vocational learners with more opportunities and help them to improve their career prospects.
Graeme Hall, Executive Director for the WL LLN, said: “Progression Agreements guarantee a place on a Higher Education course for those learners who may not be taking the conventional A Level route into Higher Education.
“Progression Agreements simplify and clarify the process of obtaining a place – they do not change or reduce the entry qualification required.
“This Agreement, between one of London’s most successful colleges and a long established and extremely well respected university indicate the high level of commitment shown by these two institutions to making access to Higher Education more of a reality for all groups of learners.
“I would like to thank the hard work of all the staff involved in making this agreement a reality.”
