Changing Futures Mentor Video

The Changing Futures project is a 3-day blended learning programme to explore and challenge barriers to learning and progression.

The AchieveAbility National Network and West London Lifelong Learning Network are offering young people from West London Colleges an opportunity to take part in the Changing Futures Project.

Our aim is to ensure access to educational opportunities for learners who have been in a residential or foster care home.

The programme incorporates a mentoring scheme. All mentors are current Higher Education students and have experience of residential or foster care homes.

William Kankam, a University of Westminster student, is a mentor and you can hear about his experiences below:

The mentors are positive role models and give young people the opportunity to share experiences and gain real insight into Higher Education and future possibilities.

The programme is aimed at learners 16 – 19 years old and is a level 4/0 bridging course linked to SEEC levels.

The programme sits with the QCA Framework of Personal, Learning and Thinking Skills enabling young people to develop and strengthen key skills of communication, independent enquiry, researching, team working and self management and evaluation.

The programme is delivered through two face to face sessions and one online session.

The whole programme is supported by an interactive online environment developed specifically for the young people.
