1a. Progression agreements between the partner institutions will be signed
- 11 signed progression agreements
- Over 45 potential progression agreements in development.
WL LLN staff continues working with partners to develop further progression agreements in a wide variety of subject areas.
1b. Promote the acceptance and use of credit within partner institutions
WL LLN has successfully worked together with SEEC and other London LLNs to promote the acceptance and use of credit. Recent activities include:
- Pan-London APEL booklet distributed to all IAG providers and colleges in west London
- APEL and Employer Engagement event hosted in April by WL LLN, South East London LLN and SEEC.
1c. Working relationship with South London and other LLNs developed and operating effectively
The WL LLN continues to work closely with other London and regional LLNs. Recent activities include:
- West and South London LLN research into the readiness of partner HEIs to accept the Diploma
- ‘Progressing the Vocational Learner: Advancing the Apprentice into HE’ pan-London conference in February. The conference series continue in June with ’Adults into Higher Education’ theme.
2. An increase in progression of vocational learners into HE of 20%
Progression for vocational learners is at the heart of all the activities of the WL LLN.
- Progression data from HESA will be analysed once it becomes available.
3. A proportionate increase in retention and achievement of vocational learners on HE courses of 5%
- Retention and achievement data from HESA will be analysed and reported to the Board as it becomes available.
4. 12 new Foundation Degrees developed (benefiting at least 200 learners)
Target: 12 new FDs benefiting at least 200 learners
Actual to beginning May 2009: 16 new FDs supported benefiting 68 learners
WL LLN has successfully developed a number of new Foundation Degrees. 68 learners are benefitting from 7 current Foundation Degrees and a further 6 Foundation Degrees are due to start in September 2009 and 3 in September 2010.
5. 1,200 learners benefiting from Level 4 learner support provision
Target: 1,200
Actual to beginning May 2009: 397
To the beginning of May, 397 learners studying at Level 4 or above have benefitted from learner support provision. WL LLN is working with partners on numerous projects in this area and the Maths Café and other associated projects will noticeably boost this target.
6. 750 partner institution and employer staff undertaking CPD activities related to the project
Target: 750
Actual to beginning of May 2009: 2,029
WL LLN has focussed on providing CPD activities for partner staff and for practitioners working in IAG. This includes successfully working with other London LLNs on ‘Progressing the vocational learner’ conferences discussing and debating various areas related to IAG and admissions of vocational learners into HE.
The third in a series of HE in FE staff development workshops (Curricula development in HE) was held in March 2009. The workshop provided new tools for delegates for curricula development and enabled sharing good practice between partners.
7. 300 learners recruited onto re-formatted undergraduate programmes
Target: 300
Actual to beginning May 2009: 74
To the beginning of May, 74 learners have been recruited onto re-formatted undergraduate programmes.
WL LLN is working with partners on projects in this area and for example the generic top-up programme that WL LLN has developed with Thames Valley University will contribute to this target.
8. 1,000 learners accessing additional e-learning support
Target: 1000
Actual to beginning of May 2009: 166
One of the recent successes in this area is College of North West London’s online module for Health and Safety in Construction. 51 learners accessed the module (460 individual uses) between January and April 2009.
WL LLN is currently working with partners on a number of e-learning projects.
9. 3,000 learners receiving materials and focused IAG advice, and attending LLN events
Target: 3,000
Actual to beginning of May 2009: 3,716
To date 3,716 learners have received materials produced by the WL LLN either through their College tutors or at local and national events such as Adult Learners Week.
10. 150,000 web hits across the three years of the project
Target: 150,000
Actual to beginning of May 2009: 120,333
