A National Audit Office report on the progress and development of widening participation in higher education has been welcomed by HEFCE.
The report, titled ‘Widening participation in higher education’ examines national trends in participation, and the progress made by the HE sector in addressing some of the barriers to widening participation.
Professor David Eastwood, Chief Executive of HEFCE, said:
“We welcome the focus this report has given to the importance of widening participation activities. The report recognises the part they play in raising the aspirations and attainment of young people, and highlights progress so far.
“We support the conclusions and are fully committed to continuing to review the range of our widening participation activities to see where further work might need to be done – in particular exploring ways of deepening the relationship between schools and HEIs in order to help raise attainment and broaden the horizons of young people.”
