London Horticulture Foundation Degree
The WL LLN has identified a regional need for Degree level skills within the land and related green skills sector in London.
This is a specialist area of delivery which has seen substantive cuts in FE delivery from providers, with small learner numbers over the last decade.
In addition, the existing workforce will face significant replacement demand as the current average age is higher that the workforce average.
We propose to develop a London Foundation Degree in Horticulture and there has been considerable interest from London delegates at a recent employer presentation.
A steering group with representatives from employers, providers and Lantra has been formed and a detailed employer demand attitudes survey is being piloted.
Large London employers include parks and open space organisations, sub contractors, heritage and voluntary/ community sector organisations.
WL LLN has identified Capel Manor College (as the regional CoVE) as the ideal deliverer of this programme and is exploring models for the effective delivery of this degree.
We are also exploring with Capel Manor how the Foundation Degree will form a continuous progression route from the proposed new Environmental and Land Based 14-19 Diploma.
