Diploma in IT Prepares Young People for Demanding Degree Courses

Logistics employers have responded enthusiastically to an online survey organised by the West London Lifelong Learning Network.

The West London Lifelong Learning Network requested employer feedback on our plans for a logistics Foundation degree to be delivered by Thames Valley University from September 2008.

A steering group of specialists including Skills for Logistics, the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, the British Institute of Freight Association and work-based specialist provider Carter and Carter reviewed and disseminated the survey.

More than 50 employer responses have been received, each asking to be kept up-to-date on developments and even volunteering to assist in the development process.

John McDonald, Heathrow Sector Co-ordinator, commented “The feedback we have received has been extremely positive and the information collected is vital to ensure that the final degree fully meets business needs. I’m delighted employers have shown such a great interest in our plans.”

Further learner and employer workshops will be used to explore some of the key findings from the survey.

The next stage is to use this information to amend each part of the proposed degree structure and then deliver the full programme with a start date of September 2008.

The West London Lifelong Learning Network is working with the Sector Skills Council and Skills for Logistics to ensure that the new degree is one of the first to meet their vocational qualification standard.
