HEFCE has selected the West London Lifelong Learning Network and South London Lifelong Learning Network to investigate how Higher Education Institutions can support the development of the 14-19 Diploma.
We are one of only 5 LLNs in the UK chosen to review each of the first 5 pilot Diploma line areas. We will focus on IT.
We will work closely with local borough consortia that plan to start the IT Diploma in local schools and colleges in 2008-09.
We will establish what priorities they have as they develop their plans and where they see Higher Education and Further Education supporting their delivery.
We will also survey university and college curriculum and ask admissions staff what they think about the Diplomas and how the IT line can be developed to maximise progression routes into Higher Education.
This work will deliver a series of progression agreements which give future IT Diploma learners a clear progression route and guaranteed entry into Higher Education.
We will report our findings to HEFCE in December and disseminate the results to our partners across the country in early 2008.
