14-19 IT Diploma

The West London Lifelong Learning Network has been working on a project for HEFCE looking at HE/FE involvement in the IT Diploma.

HEFCE selected one LLN each for the first 5 pilot Diploma line areas. A great deal of desk based analysis has already been carried out to review existing progression opportunities in this area.

In addition John McDonald, the Heathrow Sector Co-ordinator has joined three local IT Diploma Development Partnerships in Hillingdon, Hammersmith and Fulham and Hounslow.

Feedback from these groups, show that the perception of Diploma opportunities will largely be driven by the progression opportunities into HE and FE.

On the 21 November the West London Lifelong Learning Network organised a workshop with colleagues from South London LLN for HE and FE IT curriculum leads. 20 delegates from a wide range of providers attended.

Chris Watson from Hammersmith and West London College gave a presentation on the Level 3 Diploma they will be running.

We then had workshop discussions which were facilitated by Dr Eric Blair (until recently 14-19 Advisor at the London Borough of Hillingdon).

There was widespread interest in the Diploma and a willingness to not only follow developments but also engage in future Diploma development.

The next stage of the project will be based around the development of Progression Agreements which clearly set out progression opportunities for Diplomats in HE and FE.

Development groups will be established to examine curriculum issues in detail and the UCAS tariff ratings which we expect to be published early next year.

We will deliver our final report to HEFCE in January and then participate in a national dissemination event in the spring.

Other Heathrow related Diploma lines
