Foundation Degree for an Assistant Practitioner working with clients with long-term conditions’

This foundation degree will produce an Assistant Practitioner that will provide employers with an autonomous practitioner who can function independently, as well as part of existing teams, in health and social care.

The role will be designed to enable flexible working in supporting client pathways that cross boundaries of traditional health and social care, for example intermediate care and Community Matrons.

This role will cross boundaries in practice and, to reflect this, the programme will be delivered jointly by the schools of social work, physiotherapy and nursing – and the student will have placements in all of these areas. The new Assistant Practitioner will offer employers an alternative to complement to existing practice roles.

The aim is to recruit non-traditional students who will have access into social care and physiotherapy with potentially later progression onto the professional courses. This will build on progression agreements the Faculty already has with a number of FE colleges.

This will enable progression into courses within the Faculty which, particularly physiotherapy, have not traditionally taken non-traditional students. It therefore fits well with the aims of the WL LLN.

Consequently, there will be a number of possible progression routes for graduate students e.g. entry to year 2 of BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy, year 2 of BA (Hons) Social Work, year 2 of the BSc (Hons) Nursing / Registered Nurse programme – or graduates could enter the third year of the BSc (Hons) in Healthcare Practice.
