A new Clinical Advisory Group (CAG) is set to lead the way in improving Londoners’ health over the next few years.
As part of the Healthcare for London programme, established by NHS London and run in partnership with the Primary Care Trusts, the CAG will:
- provide clinical expertise and leadership for projects
- support PCTs in commissioning high-quality, evidence-based, clinically effective services
- engage with professional networks across London to discuss issues with colleagues and to utilise their expertise in developing services
- support local implementation of Healthcare for London.
One of the first tasks for the group is to encourage NHS staff across London to get involved in Consulting the Capital – the London-wide consultation based Lord Darzi’s Framework for Action.
The Framework aims to improve the quality, safety and accessibility of London’s healthcare. Staff, members of the public and organisations have until 7 March to respond.
The ideas in A Framework for Action were based on clinical evidence and the expertise and experience of clinicians across London.
The CAG will ensure clinical leadership and expertise continues to underpin all elements of the HfL programme by shaping the response to the consultation and providing advice to the Joint Committee of PCTs (JCPCT) on their recommendations.
The CAG is co-chaired by Sir Cyril Chantler (Chair of the Board of the Great Ormond Street Hospital and of the Kings Fund) and Trish Morris-Thompson (Chief Nurse and Professor of Nursing and Midwifery, NHS London.
