Practical Guide to Integrated Working

A ‘Practical Guide to Integrated Working’ was launched at the joint Integrated Care Network/NHS Networks conference on 14 February 2008 in London.

New cultures and methods of working together are the key to more effective health and social care services, according to a guide published by the Care Services Improvement Partnership Integrated Care Network (11 Feb 08).

The Practical Guide to Integrated Working outlines some of the central challenges experienced in local care economies, and offers a new approach towards the integration of health and care services. It updates a version published in 2004.

Author Peter Thistlethwaite said: “Integration is not just about policy and nor is this guide. It is about individuals and teams from diverse organisations and backgrounds working together in new ways to deliver greater service improvements and effective outcomes for the benefit of their communities.

“The evidence is clear: integrated systems are more effective ones. We need to arm local leaders, policy makers, managers and frontline staff to be better prepared to deliver the health and social care challenges of the 21st century in a more integrated way. Above all, they must respond to users’ of services current needs and changing expectations. This guide sets out to deliver on this agenda.”
