Course Overview
Forensic Science may be defi ned as an aspect of science as it relates to crime and the law. This programme provides a fi rm foundation in Forensic Science, maximising the potential for specialisation within the subject area.
The Forensic Science Foundation Degree is highly multi-disciplinary in nature, encompassing aspects of science, psychology and the law. Consequently, the programme incorporates a wide range of topics including anatomy, physiology, scientifi c analytical methods, criminal psychology, law processes, chemistry, pathology, molecular biology and genetics. Since this Degree offers specialised training in Forensic Science, it is intended that you should complete all elements of the programme.

Assessment:
A range of summative assessments are utilised, including case studies, assessment of practical abilities.
Progression Route:
On completion of the programme, the student will have developed a range of skills derived from a good knowledge of the methods used in scientific analysis and research, molecular biology, insights into the criminal justice system, and a sound appreciation of the process of criminal investigation. These qualities will allow the student to pursue a career in Forensic Science.
Foundation Degree graduates would be able, in due course, to specialise, either within their current employment organisation, or subsequent to taking up a new employment position. As a practising Forensic Scientist the student may specialise in a particular aspect of Forensic Science for example:
- Reporting Officer
- Scene of Crime Examiner
- Fingerprint Expert
- Imaging Specialist
- Accident or Fire Investigator
- Firearms Expert
- Pathology Specialist
Entry Requirements:
- At least 40 UCAS tariff points, which should include a science subject. Points generated
by GCE AS/VCE AS Level and Key Skills qualifi cations, will be considered. - BTEC National Diploma: in relevant subjects
- GCSE Maths at Grade C or equivalent
Students without the above qualifi cations but possessing relevant work experience are invited to apply. Such applications will be considered on an individual basis.
