Course Overview
The Foundation Degree programme provides the opportunity for students who have
completed Level 3, (e.g. NVQ Level 3 in Care or Childcare and Education, AVCE) or those who have related work experience, to achieve a nationally recognised qualifi cation within two years of study. It will provide the knowledge, understanding and skills necessary for successful employment in supervisory or junior management positions in health and social care or for progression onto the fi nal year of a related Honours Degree.
The course has been designed in conjunction with Bucks New University to develop study skills and provide an understanding of the key subject area at degree level.

- Aspects of Human Resources and Risk Management in Health and Social Care
- Effective Communication in Health and Social Care
- Equality, Diversity and Rights in Health and Social Care
- The Psychosocial Infl uences in Health and Social Care
Level 5
- Investigating Health and Social Care
- Managing Care and Services in Health and Social Care
- Professional Practice in Health and Social Care
- Research Evidence for Health and Social Care
Assessment:
A variety of assessment methods are used. Most modules use a number of assignments which will be in the form of an essay, in-class assessment, investigation and report, presentation or portfolio of practical work.
Progression Route:
Many career paths are open to graduates of care management programmes in all areas of health and social care management. A mature graduate might have the chance to join a company at a higher entry point and take part in graduate training schemes, which may significantly improve career prospects.
Graduates from this course can alternatively progress onto the final year of a related Honours Degree.
Entry Requirements:
Prospective students are required to:
- Have an appropriate FE level qualifi cation such as NVQ Level 3, AVCE or equivalent or
- Be mature candidates, who, whilst not having the necessary academic qualifi cations, have relevant work experience.
All prospective students will also be required to:
- Successfully complete an interview
- Successfully complete an initial written and basic skills assessment
Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) / Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) opportunities will be considered for all applicants, these will be based on the guidelines of Bucks New University.
