Course Overview
This Foundation Degree has been specifi cally designed to enable individuals working in health and social care settings to achieve Assistant Practitioner status. There is a balance between taught elements and facilitated learning in your own workplace.
Course Structure (including modules/assessment methods):
Level 4 :
- Sources of Information for Essays, Assignments and Research (SEARCH)
- Using Evidence in Health and Social Care
- Principles of Safe Practice in Health and Social Care
- Relationship Management
- Information and Communication Technology
- Developing the Assistant Practitioner Role: Work-based Learning
Level 5
- Exploring Leadership
- Concepts of Health
- Social Research Methods
- Project (40 credits)
- Enhancing the Assistant Practitioner Role: Work-based Learning
Assessment:
A wide variety of assessment tools are used. These include: academic essay, literature review, written reports, folder of evidence and ‘Blackboard’ exercises.
Progression Route:
On completion of the FdSc the student will be eligible to enrol for the BSc (Hons) Degree in Health Studies (Level 6), and also enables a one year exemption from the three year preregistration nurse training.
Career progression: Assistant Practitioner, progressing to Registered Practitioner on completion of a further two years of study on nurse registration programme.
Graduate status on completion of Level 6, leading to post-graduate opportunities (specialist/ advanced practitioner).
Entry Requirements:
Literacy and Numeracy (Level 2 or above)
Good communication skills
Students will also be considered based on how their professional/work/life experience demonstrates their ability to engage with the nature of the programme and work at Level 4.
