Course Overview
This course is for people with considerable experience currently working in a school or childcare setting and looking to expand their knowledge and understanding of Early Years, Childcare and Education. It is also ideal for those wishing to progress to become a manager, or already working as a manager, within an Early Years setting or those considering going into teacher training at a later date.

The project is delivered through taught lessons and directed tasks. Teaching and learning will consist of workshops, lectures, seminars and discussion groups, as well as self-assessment and independent study. Students will also have tutorials with a personal tutor, who will meet with them for group and individual sessions.
Assessment
The student will be assessed through presentations, coursework, specific assignments and observations of children. There is no final exam, but they will be required to do 8 assignments per year plus a research project. All coursework is internally moderated with Kingston University.
Progression Route
On successful completion the student will be a fully qualified Senior Practitioner for the Early Years sector, enabling them to manage a day care nursery or similar provision. Alternatively they can choose to take a ‘top-up’ year of study at Kingston University to gain a BA (Hons) Degree in either Education and Childcare or Early Years (Teaching). This can be achieved while working through evening and weekend study. After the Honours Degree the student may wish to take a PGCE or graduate teacher programme to gain qualified teacher status or work towards Early Years Professional Status.
Entry Requirements
The student must be qualifi ed to NVQ Level 3 in Childcare or equivalent, e.g. CACHE Diploma in Childcare and Education or NNEB, and be able to show considerable maturity and experience. Students must be in current relevant employment as well as having 5 years experience.
