Course Overview

For people wanting to develop a career in one of the most rapidly expanding sectors of the UK economy, this course offers an opportunity to learn technical, supervisory and managerial aspects of the hospitality business and to learn how to manage resources, people, information and the working environment.

For those with experience, there are opportunities to gain academic credit for skills already mastered, leading to an academic award recognised by the industry’s professional body (HCIMA).

Students will also develop and be assessed in Key Skills.

For students returning to studies, there is a module in Study Skills set right at the beginning of the course aimed to help them pick up and refresh the skills students will need.

Assessment

Assessment includes practical assessments, assignments and portfolio building.

Progression Route

By the end of the course, students will be working as skilled practitioners and may progress to a further year of study at TVU and gain an Honours Degree in Hospitality Management.

Students from hospitality management courses can enter a wide range of sectors within the hospitality industry. These include hotels, restaurants, public houses, contract catering, schools, hospitals, workplace catering, fast food, airlines, and catering within the leisure sectors.

Entry Requirements

This course is designed for those already in employment who do not have a higher education qualification, as well as for school and college leavers.

Applications will be particularly welcome from mature students. Such students will be considered on evidence of ability to benefit from the course and may not have to meet the formal requirements of the University for admission.

Applicants who have an A/VCE A Level points score of at least 40 (e.g. one A/VCE A Level or two AS/VCE AS Levels), will be positively considered for admission to this course.
