Course Overview:

This course is designed for those wanting to develop careers in the music profession and related industries, and is primarily aimed at those already in a music profession and wishing to extend their skills base, or re-skill. The course provides relevant experience through a work placement scheme, as well as a Higher Education qualification.

Course Structure (including modules/assessment methods):

The course comprises individual lessons, master classes, ensemble and solo performance opportunities, lectures and seminars as well as work-based learning and projects, forging links between academic study, the development of technical skills and the workplace.

Academic tutors and professional musicians of international esteem will help develop skills in performance, in a wide range of styles.

Progression Route:

Career progression: Freelance performer, composer or arranger; teaching; military musician; theatre musician; music / arts administration.

Study progression: Students who successfully complete the FdA may choose to continue their studies on the third year of TVU’s BMus (Hons) Performance/Composition course and subsequently, the MMus in Performance or Composition.

Entry Requirements:

This course is designed for those already working in the music profession, music industry or related areas who do not have a Higher Education qualifi cation, as well as for school and college leavers with appropriate qualifi cations.

Applications are welcome from students of all ages. Some students may be considered on evidence of their ability to benefi t from the course and may not have to meet the formal University requirements for admission. The normal requirements for this course are: grade 7-8 standard (or equivalent) on 1st study
(instrument, voice, or conducting) and 40 UCAS tariff points.

Interview: All applicants to this course will be interviewed or auditioned
Instrumentalists and singers: a 10-12 minute performance on first study of two contrasting pieces or three songs, and sight-reading/singing.

Conductors: conducting two contrasting works with piano or submitting a video of previous performances, score-reading,
