Course Overview

This course is validated by the University of Northampton and designed in partnership with the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) and a number of Further Education Colleges across the UK.

This course is for those who are an AAT Technician or Diploma graduate and are keen to advance their career without following a traditional accounting pathway such as CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) or ACCA (Association of Chartered Certifi ed Accountants).

Course Structure (including modules/assessment methods):

Students can use their Level 4 AAT qualifi cation to gain exemption from two-thirds of the FdA Accounting. They will be supported through regular email contact with their tutor as well as workshops held at the College. During their studies they will have full access (remotely where necessary) to the learning resources of the College and the University of Northampton.

Distance Learning units:

Students will follow one work-based and one distance learning unit each semester
(September to January or February to May).

Assessment

Work based units assessment methods include assignments involving the drawing up of a “learning contract” between learner, employer and college; personal development log; critical appraisal; refl ective essay; and report.

Distance learning modules are assessed through written assignments and short answer tests all submitted on line.

Progression Route

On successful completion of the FdA Accounting, the student could progress onto BA
Accounting through Distance Learning or BA Business at the University of Northampton. Accountants are highly valued across all organisations and business sectors. The FdA Accounting will prepare the student to work in this fi eld and open up many opportunities to advance their career and become a fully-qualified chartered accountant.
