Project: eLearning for Transition, Progression and Retention

“The transition to higher education is often difficult for students, but especially for those with additional needs or with more limited family support” (HEA).
This project will investigate effective ways of using e-learning to enhance the student transition experience for those students who have non-traditional qualifications. Current developmental activity to address the retention of students who move into Higher Education from an FEC includes, for instance, the provision of “bridging courses” and extended student induction. Brunel University, in conjunction with the WL LLN E-Learning Working Group, is providing a bridging course for this target student group in September 2008.
The specific aim of this project is to develop an e-learning experience that extends the notion of a “bridging course”, extending it both before and after entry to the Higher Education Institution – and to evaluate aspects of the design and operation of the experience.
